time she was eliminated...thank god anwesha wasnt!!!

one of the cute factor is gone. atleast the judge can concentrate mote on SUR factor.

One of my friend send me the following message

Toshi was attacked in Mumbai late on Sunday night.Toshi was assaulted by four unknown men, who hit him with a hammer. The grievously injured singer was rushed to the city’s Nanavati hospital. He underwent an emergency surgery. His condition is now stable but due to brain injury, he has lost power in his arm.

Its quite shameful act. He is such a good singer.

Hard said...

Kalyani,
Why do you think Anwesha would get eliminated?
Remember, this is a show with judges having a lot of clout. I am sure that she will never be eliminated by the judges!!!

Kalyani said...

hard..
thank u..u have more faith..i dont..imagine she came in scary land!!!..very frankly,i dont believe in the public voting,i feel the whole show goes on ...as the producer wants and decides...

Kalyani said...

@amit,
yup, it was shocking abt toshi!!!i came to know abt it on monday morning!!as long as ppl have no control over their anger, hate spawns...and breeds violence..and no one is spared!!!

Hard said...

I think Anwesha will come in scary land because people from calcutta do not vote as much, for some reason. Remember Prantik and Prantika? They were the first ones to go.
However, judges will never eliminate Anwesha and hence she will be fine.
Last year, Sanchita won because she was an awesome singer and got the support of entire nation. Anwesha too will be able to do so, eventually. I still think she will get some tough competition from Aish and Soniya

BTW, is any of you an RD fan?

verma said...

Kalyani/Amit,

You are shocked over attack on Toshi, but what about the continuous abuse of Ishmeet by VOI judges. They continuously wounded his soul.
Madam, wounds on body can heal easily, but a wounded soul is difficult to heal.

verma said...

The judges of Chotte Ustaad are much better compared to the judges of Voice of India. Anvesh and Aishwarya are really promising, but Jayant is the star of the show.
In the morning news it is said that Jayant went to meet Bal Thackeray at his residence in Mumbai.

Kalyani said...

@ hard,
i assume u mean RD burman??

Hard said...

Kalyani,
Yes, I mean RD Burman the real 'chhote ustaad' (from chhote burman)
Hey Kalyani, Rishi please check that Verma is not the same guy by the name 'Jatin' from Shashi's blog. He totally veers the discussions away to a non-music land and all that he can talk about is Ishmeet!
I mean how can you compare a damaging physical attack on Toshi to the alleged questionable treatment meted out to Ishmeet on Star VOI.
Its totally baseless!

amit said...

@verma

do u think 2 wrong act makes one right.
What they said to Ishmeet is not justified.

But attacking any human being is a devil's act. that also 4 man hitting one unarmed guy. Is it quite COUREGEOUS act? Any sensible person will understand this.

You are those type who vote according to race/caste/religion. n fall into the trap of Gazzi sympathy voting system. You people never consider talent. I am also deeply sympathetic for Jayant. I wish there should be some way to cure his illness. But his deficiency should not be in consideration for voting. He is good, but untill now not the best in my opinion. all person can have diff opinion. He may be quite strong in classical. Its a long run, we have to see whether he can sing all sort of songs

For me, I will vote for that singer, whose CD I will purchase if it comes into the market.

Since the voting system has started none of the deserving candidate has won. I wish only judges opinion is taken into consideration. I know judges cant be fully impartial. but then also we may get better singers- shreya ghosal, sunidhi chauhan, kunal ganjawala, sanjeevani(not that famous).

But can anyone tell me what happen to voting system winner- abhijeet sawant (1st album was ok), sandeep acharya, prashant tamang, (all from indian idol)
debojit, ujjyani/aishwarya, (saregama)

Regarding Ishmeet, now its waiting game. (till the music release)

I did not watch STARVOI. but my friends told me Punjab has outclassed rest of India in voting. ishmeet got less votes than the other guy in all the zones (east/west/south). But when punjab & UP votes were added, Ishmeet was adjourned the winner. This may give one the clear picture what voting system can do. Its all in your hand. make your people won the title, though you wont listen to his music after it launched in the market. ALL THE BEST.

Hard said...

This is exactly what I meant by 'veering discussions away'. Poor Amit fell into a trap although what he wrote made total sense.

amit said...

@hard,
If only one vote per mobile/ computer is accepted, then a real talent may win. I dont know how the voting system works. I think multiple vote is allowed.

Lets hope the best of the lot wins the title.

I am fond of RD's music. He has given lots of beautiful compositions, but then also he has just got 3 Filmfare award. His bad luck, that he was born in the age of laxmikant/pyarelal, kalyanji/anandji & others great music director.

But Indian film industry will never forget his contribution to Indian music. He has given a new dimensions to Indian Movie Music

Kalyani said...

@amit and hard,
i dunno if u ppl have been following this blog closely...i did fall into the trap of replying to jatin remarks...till it reached a stage , where he decided not to come abck to the blog...i dunno who verma is...but, non stop obnoxious comments will b deleted...
abt RD burman, hes a fantastic music director...all i can say from my side is...a good song which touches u r soul, depending on u r mood, is a good song by me..irrespective of the singer, music director, lyrics.....and we have had excellent music in india in various languages...but the soul of india lies in indian classical music, whether carnatic or hindustani....
cheers...

Hard said...

Amit,
Since you mentioned Laxmi-Pyare, here's a bit of trivia.
Dosti was their first major hit which catapulted them to the top of charts and made them a force to reckon with. Songs like Jaanewalon zara.., Koi jab raah na paye..., Chahoonga main.. etc still ring in our ears with Rafi's masterful voice adding to the charm!
Have you ever noticed all the songs are characterized by the sound of Harmonica (mouth organ).
Do you know who played that Harmonica?

It was none other than RD!!!!
It was a pity that he only won 3 filmfare awards because in older times music was not marketed the way it is today and if a film failed, the music did too. RD has been on the receiving end of that phenomenon. One of his best music was for movies that did not do well on box office and hence the music also sank. Remember, filmfare are popular awards and do not necessarily represent excellence!

I am listing three of RD's gems, I am sure not too many people will be able to tell me who was the leading actor featured in these songs without taking the help of Google :)

1. Aaj unse pehli mulaqaat hogi
2. Raat kali ek khwab mein aayi
3. Bade achchey lagtey hain

Yenjaay!

amit said...

I can tell
1. Aaj unse pehli mulaqaat hogi-rakesh roshan-hema
2. Raat kali ek khwab mein aayi-naveen nishchal (heroein was not fair in colour)
3. Bade achchey lagtey hain-sachin (though i forgot the heroein, but i do remember asrani in that movie)

quite beautiful songs, but they few from a long list. my dad was fond of S D Burman songs. one day he was telling me that both father-son got nominated for the film fare in the same year.

RD was quite talented.I think he was nominated once for singing too.

Kalyani said...

deviating, dont u think kishore kumar was also a talent quite unsung..esp as a composer???his jhumroo is his best till date.!!!

verma said...

Whatever happened with Toshi was quite unfortunate. Violence has no place in civilized society.

verma said...

Amit,

Regarding your previous message Ishmeet was trailing only marginally in 3 zones where as he won handsomely in the North Zone.

ou will be surprised to know that he got 32% votes even from U.P. which was Harshit home state.
Ishmeet got votes all over India, Punjab votes alone could not have made him the victor. This propaganda that he got votes only from Punjab is totally wrong and baseless.
I hope I have cleared your doubts.

verma said...

Amit,

I agree with you that only one vote per mobile and landline number should be allowed.

amit said...

kishore kumar is my all time fav. he was a gr8 singer. Regarding composer I am not sure. Jhumroo was the famous one. but none of his other composition were that hit. may be he acted as composer in his own production (most of them failed)

I was watching K for Kishore, where amit kumar says his father was contributing a lot during music composition. In the song Musafir hoon yaaroon (composed by RD) he added the humming (just after musafir hoon yaroo, na ghar hain thikana) in the song.

what abt the trio of R D Burman-Guljar-Kishore Kumar?

Hard said...

Kalyani, Amit,
Its heartening to see that you guys recognize the genius of RD.
Kalyani just touched upon another favorite of mine. Kishore da! Uff, what a personality. Lataji unhey bharat ka Danny K kehti thhein. He was a singer, music director, songwriter, actor, director etc etc.
Kishore had a special relationship with RD and SD. It was legendary how SD used to call him at 3.00 in the morning after he had composed a new song just to check if kishore's 'gala'(throat) was alright!!!!
Kishore's death killed RD as a musician as he could not find any other voice who could do justice to his compositions. He tried a lot of singers, Amit Kumar, Suresh Wadekar, Shailendra Singh, Bhupinder but never stuck to anyone the way he did to kishore.
Did you guys know that RD split from SD when his own father did not credit him for the songs he had composed for Aradhana!!!!! (It was a known fact that RD composed most of the songs as SD was ill)
I can go on and on. RD, Kishore and hindi film music are my weaknesses :)

Hard said...

....and the man who gave us Bidi jalaiye lay and Mirza Ghalib....Sampoorna Singh alias Gulzar!
More tomorrow....have fun blogging guys!

amit said...

@verma
this is what i got from google search
The break-up of the votes is as follows:
North region - "Ishmeet" - 63%; "Harshit"- 37% ;
East region-"Ishmeet"- 48%, "Harshit"-52%;
West region -"Ishmeet"- 40% , "Harshit"- 60% and
South region -"Ismeet"- 45%, "Harshit"- 55% ,
so Total percentage of votes recieved by "Ishmeet"-52% and "Harshit"-48%.

Dont you think north zone (dominently punjab) 63% has clinched the title for Ishmeet. If you see west zone votes, harshit got 60% of the votes, then also it could not change the fate of the vote

Verma, lets leave Ishmeet case & concentrate on the Chotey ustad

thanks

@hard,
gosh, u r a fount of knowledge...great to know!!
pre 70s most songs r my fav....but i still prefer mukesh and asha.....

Hard said...

Most of the info I have comes from a friend in college who was such a big RD fan that he used to go to the chor bazaar in Bombay and buy LPs of RD's and Kishore's old movies (that was the only way you could find music of some of their movies!!)
He later opened his own company which largely specializes in digitizing old hind movie songs. He has named it Pancham Studios pvt limited. Now that is a music lover and fan!

Kalyani said...

wow..!!!thats passion at its best!!but, glad u remember so much..keep posting!!!

Rishi said...

Dear Kalyani, Hard and Amit

I am really impressed by your knowledge of music industry in the olden times. Your comments have always been pleasure for me to read.

Regarding the song "Raat kali ek khwaab me aayi" the song is from the film "Buddha Mil Gaya" and was picturised on Navin Nishchal and Archana.

The song "Bade achchhe lagte hain" is from the film "Balika Badhu" and was picturised on Sachin and Rajni Sharma.

Kalyani said...

@ hard,
since u shared a few anecdotes abt kishore, this one came to my mind....anyways...Apart from being a very talented singer, composer, actor Kishore Kumar is also remembered for his eccentricities. The sign of his eccentricities were already visible in him at a very young age!!!. My grandparents were staying opposite kishore kumars dads place in khandwa. my dads elder brother and kishore kumar were approx same age... my uncle was a good singer, orator, painter.... kishore cudn’t stand the fact that my uncle cud sing better than him and one day, in a fit of rage, Kishore killed my uncle’s parrot. I am not sure whether I should have shared it with you all, but the point is ..he was quite an eccentric right from childhood and used to fly off the handle quite easily...that doesnt detract from his immense talent!!!hats off...!!!cheers!!!

Rishi said...

yaar Kalyani!!

Kishore killed one parrot in 30s and therefore mathematically I killed two parrots in 60s. but main to wahi ka wahi reh gaya (the only difference is that I was not in khandwa but in Rajasthan). Tota bhi gaya aur main bhi rota reh gaya.

Rishi said...

Kaam na aaya Tota,
Rishi reh gaya rota!!

Wah Wah
Can I become Lyricist? Any takers?

verma said...

What was Kishore Kumar's real name & Which was the last song which he sang?

Kalyani said...

@verma,
u can google it...all the best!!!

verma said...

Miss Kalyani,

Infact I did it , Kishore da's real name is Abhas Ganguly. Is Abhas Joshi Kishore da's punarjanam. Abhas has really great potential. He is a very good singer.

But i still could not find out the last song that Kishore da had sung.

amit said...

google has all the details

Kishore Kumar recorded his last song on October 12, 1987, a day before he died.
The song was Guru O Guru, a duet with Asha Bhosle, for the film Waqt ki Aawaz (1988) composed by Bappi Lahiri.

Hard said...

LOL!!! tota and rota was too hilarious. I'm sure you can become a lyricist. If anand bakshi can write a song which says,
Suno, Kaho, Kaha, Suna, kuch hua kya... I'm sure your tota-rota could very well be a song !!!
Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Swanand Kirkire and Prasoon Joshi have changed the face of lyricism. Modern songs have very deep lyrics which challenges composers t come up with non conventional tunes.
Another trivia...
When Gulzar showed the songs of Ijaazat to RD, he read through them and said "Yaar, ek din tum mujhey newspaper day kar usay compose karney ko bologey!!!"
Its funny he said that cause the songs of Ijaazat resulted to be super melodious with great lyrics and a class apart rendition by Asha!

Hard said...

I am waiting for the day where Aish or Anwesha sing one of Ashaji's songs from Ijaazat. I am sure they will bring tears of joy to my eyes!
Do you guys remember their performance in Star VOI? They sang 'Munn kyoon behka' from the movie Utsav.

Kalyani said...

yup...!!!it was great !!!

amit said...

nice said hard..

It will make nice lyrics
tota, rota.. rota, tota... mirchi khaya kya... abhi toh nahi...

the link for aish/anwesha song for those(like me),who has not watched it, as follows
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8420230295906178825&q=mann+kyon+behka&total=4&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=3

Kalyani said...

@amit,
thanks, wen i started seeing chhote i didnt realise that the other kid who sang with aishwarya was anwesha..both of them r excellent..and listening to the clip just now..its very obvious..anweshas a wee bit better than aish...
cheers...

Hard said...

I am amazed at how these little kids capture all the 'harkats' of a song. The throw, the modulation. the pitch, all just near perfect.
While watching the clip, I think there's something that needs to be said about SVOI musicians. What a talented bunch of blokes who enjoy what they are doing!!!
Hats off to them....
I think instead of the participant AVs (booooring), Gajj ji should dedicate a few episodes to these fantastic musicians, their background, expertise, struggle etc..

Rishi said...

Another interesting fact:

Kishore Kumar married six times. Thanks to family pressures, he married Yogeeta Bali and Leena Chandavarkar twice each with proper rituals after his hush-hush rush marriages to them. Since all four of his wives stayed prior to marriage in Bandra in Mumbai, he would collectively call them bandariyas (monkeys).

Thank God!! Andrew Symonds is nowhere related to any of his wives.

Rishi said...

Excellently said Hard!!

Yes. These kids, irrespective of their age, have a tremendous amount of energy, throw, etc while singing a song. Even though Mansi and Abeer are nowhere near Anvesha but still the confidence with which they stand on the stage is commendable.

Regarding musicians, yes, instead of calling Doctors and Reiki Grandmasters or showing the AVs of participants problems- Gajji would do better if he dedicates few episodes as suggested by you.

Atleast this programme's format is better than VOI. Here, the influence of SMS is limited and is only for deciding whether participant is in "fairy" or "scary" land. The subsequent elimination is 'seemingly' in the hands of Judges, unless that too is 'scripted'.

Kalyani said...

well said rishi and hard...even i was thinking the same abt the musicians!!!they really enjoy what they r doing, sometimes wen they show them smiling wen a kid sings well...i also smile and feel good...!!!their expressions are more open and genuine.compared to the judges at times!!!

amit said...

few more interesting facts abt RD

R D Burman was an accomplished mouth organ player. He played mouth organ in the song "Hai Apna Dil To Aawara.." for the film Solva Saal, and, for the song "Rahi Manwa Dukh Ki Chinta..' for the film Dosti

Pancham composed the songs "Aye Meri Topi Palat Ke Aa" and "Sir Jo Tera Chakraye.." at the age of 9, which were later used in the films Funtoosh and Pyaasa respectively, by his father.

Hard said...

He's out of danger.
Read the link, its hilarious and only police in our country can suspect co-contestants for carrying out such an act.
http://www.bollywoodblog.com/category/TV/Toshi-attacked-by-a-group-in-Mumbai-co-contestants-being-questioned/

verma said...

Rishi,

Yogeeta Bali is married to Mithun Da not Kishore Kumar.Kishore Da married Madhubala. Please check your facts. Meanwhile in the Toshi case police has summoned Gajendra singh all the 11 finalists of VOI.
Police said he had some fight with some guys in the bar where he is sings a few days back. This attack may be a fall out of that incident.

verma said...

It is said that Toshi was dating some California based NRI punjabi girl. The attack may be due to resentment of girl's family.

verma said...

I have heard that VOI seniors is going to start this March. Is it true?

Rishi said...

@ Verma

On the contrary, u need to check your facts.
Kishore Da had four wives:
Ruma Devi (mother of Amit Kumar)
Madhubala
Yogita Bali
and finally Lina Chandavarkar (mother of Sumit Kumar).

After divorce from Kishore Kumar, Yogita married Mithun.

I think you lag too behind when it comes to facts.

Rishi said...

@ Verma

His first wife was Ruma Guha Thakurta aka Ruma Ghosh. Their marriage lasted from 1950 to 1958.

Kishore Kumar's second wife was the famous actress Madhubala, who had worked with him many films. They married in 1961, although Kishore Kumar knew that she had major health problems and would die in a few years. Madhubala was a Muslim, and the two had a civil marriage, for which Kishore Kumar reportedly converted to Islam and changed his name to "Karim Abdul". His family was against the marriage, and the couple also had a Hindu marriage to please them, but Madhubala was not accepted by them. The marriage lasted for 9 years, and ended with Madhubala's death on February 23, 1969.

Kishore Kumar's third marriage was to Yogeeta Bali, and lasted from 1976 to August 4, 1978.

Kishore Kumar was married to Leena Chandavarkar from 1980 until his death October 13, 1987.

amit said...

@verma ji,

Kuch google mein search hi kar lo yaar.

Ruma Devi, Madhu Bala, Yogita Bali and Leena Chandavearkar are the 4 wives of KK. With yogita it was the shortest of the 4. After Kishore da, its was the turn of another bong Mithun da.

Regarding toshi- I have got another spicy story- The California NRI Punjabi girl was the gf of Ishmeet. But she was gradually inclined towards Toshi. which ishmeet did not like & attack toshi with 3 of other friends. Cant comment on the genuinity of the message...

Hard said...

I would not believe on any such story. Ishmeet is too gentle to attack anyone. As it is its too far fetched.
I am eagerly waiting for Friday to come so that we can watch the Chhote Ustaad episode. The opportunity to watch Anwesha and Aish sings makes me look forward to the programme. I actually want Aish and Anwesha to come in scary land everytime so that we can listen to them twice!!!!
They will never be eliminated by the judges, ever!!!

verma said...

Amit,

The Ishmeet story is bull shit. Ishmeet is too simple a guy to have a girl friend and that too in California. Ishmeet is a guy beleiving in Gandhigiri. he dint speak a word against the judges who treated him so badly.
I am sure some people will try to malign Ishmeet as Toshi & Ishmeet were not too friendly with each other and Toshi publicly spoke against Ishmeet in the final episode of SVOI.
I think it is the Bar which Toshi refers as Gandagi from where all the trouble began. That bar must be frequented by anti-social elements with Toshi might hv had a small fight on some issue. Now these guys were waiting to get back at him and attacked him when they found him alone.
I personally dont think that any VOI contestant is involved in this henious act.

Rishi said...

@ Hard

I, in my heart, was always feeling this- but you said it. That way we can hear Anvesha and Aish on both friday and saturday. I am sure they would not get eliminated. In case they get eliminated, I am sure they would be brought back through Wild Card Entry process.

@ Hard and Verma
I also agree with you both that no VOI contestant can stoop so low to have committed this kind of heinous act.

Anyway, this is for the police and crime agencies to investigate, and we should not give any importance to such kind of stories unless it comes after following rigorous investigation process.

Rishi said...

@ Verma
By the way, the ones who have girlfriends- are not simple, did you mean that?

Hard said...

Rishi,
Is it possible to change the order of how the messages should be displayed? Instead of the most recent one at the bottom, can we have the most recent comment n the top? I feel its more effective that way as one does not need to scroll to read the latest message.

Rishi said...

@ Hard
Well, I am afraid it is not possible. And I think it is logical too, the way it is now. It is easier to follow the messages and the sequence of events who said what and why (especially when one logs in and sees few new messages). It's my opinion though. Agar possible hota to main logo ki rai se aisa kar deta yaar.

Kalyani said...

ok.....seems almost like a spoiler..but we r ahving ghulam ali saab on saturday on the show..
seems like more and more to promote jayant....first we had his AV clips, then docs from agarwal hospitals[to promote their clinic...]reiki specialists...now the maestro..all for jayant.it will b a shame if he wins this show...

Rishi said...

Thanks Kalyani!!

But,I could not understand the connection between Ghulam Ali's coming and Jayant's winning. Can you elaborate pls?

Is it a ghazal special episode?

Kalyani said...

am not too sure.abt it being a ghazal episode...all i can say is...i feel everything is happening, being done to promotr jayant...may b i am wrong!!!

Kalyani said...

its not a ghazal episode..but apparently ghulam ali saab flew down esp to b a part of this show...and meet jayant, bcoz he wants to b ghazal singer...!!

amit said...

what we want?? we want the best of the lot to win.... allrounder.... it can be any one, as its long way to go...

If it is a ghazal episode also, then too. though it may be a strong area of jayant. Other contestants wont take it easily. All of them will put their best effort. All the song should be of the same genre & famous. Not like in new yr nite, when everyone is singing dicso song, u ask someone to sing ghazal, to promote him. Or when u give an infamous song to kick the contestant(gitasri) out on the basis of expression.

We Indian, will be sympathsize with people like jayant. But we will make him win only if he is the best. In the last saregamapa lil champs too, Divakar was there, good singer. Then also Sanchita won the title, as she was one of the best.

Kalyani said...

@amit,
i only wrote what i read somewhere abt jayant and ghulam ali saab...abt jayant winning thats my personal opinion...!!

Kalyani said...

i saw a promo just now, abt anwesha being in scary land again...and parents giving their opinions!!is it going the saregama way or the senior svoi way...good contestants nowhere near winning the show??

Kalyani said...

@amit,
chek this out!!
http://www.india-forums.com/tellybuzz/article.asp?id=1644

Hard said...

Its okay to be in the scary land. She will NOT get eliminated by the judges. I can bet that!!!
Except for SVOI, I have usually seen the best contestants fighting it out in the finals (maybe with a sympathy vote candidate)
Amanat and Raja were the best and were in finals, Sameer and Sanchita were the best and in finals, Vineet was really good and was eliminated in the finals except for SVOI where Toshi, Abhas, Irfan, Abhilasha and Arshpreet were my top 5. Harshit was number 6 and Ishmeet was probably 9th or 10th only due to his sweet voice quality. With respect to his singing talent, he was probably not even worthy of being in the Bemisaal Barah.
Prantik was amazing but was eliminated really early in the show!!!

amit said...

@kalyani,

I completely agree with ur view. I have just added my opinion with it.
Till now, I too peronally feel that Jayant has performed better than other candidates. Only in 1 ghazal he has performed well

I cant make it out, what SVOI is doing. There is no concept any particular genre special (disco/ romantic/ ghaza etc). Other kids have to sing in that genre, but jayant will only sing Ghazal.

Regarding anwesha, as HARD has indicated earlier, bongs does not vote much. thats why after giving such a performance, she is in scary land. I am starting to fear now. As initially I thought that Gajji wont kick out Gitasri, but as she was gathering very few votes thats why he kicked her out despite being a better singer than others.
So anwesha be careful. If you dont get enough votes, be prepared to get kicked out.

amit said...

sorry i have made a wrong statement. Pl read the 2nd para as
Till now, I too peronally feel that Jayant has not performed better than other candidates. Only in 1 ghazal he has performed well

verma said...

Rishi,

Regarding your message
"By the way, the ones who have girlfriends- are not simple, did you mean that?"

I was referring particularly to Ishmeet. He is not the kind of guy to flirt with girls and have girlfriends, he is too simple a guy, but now that he is Voice of India he will soon have many girlfriends or atleast 1 girlfriend, I presume.

verma said...

I have not been watching Chotte Ustaad regularly, what is the problem with Jayant. I was told there is some problem with his eyesight. He is such a gifted singer, a ghazal maestro in the making. Cant Gajendra Singh get him treated at his expense. This guy is making so much moolah out of these children, he can spend some pennies on Jayant's treatment.

verma said...

I have read somewhere that it has been decided to crown Aishwarya as the winner of this show. I am not sure how true it is, but many people are saying so.Her family has some contacts with Gajendra Singh.

amit said...

I was wondering why RD got just 3 Filmfare. Just compare the movies which won the title for best music director (in bracket) for the year when RD was nominated for music direction

YR-RD MOVIE (in bracket the winner)
1971-Caravan (Mera Naam Joker- Shankar Jaikishan)
1973-Yadoon Ki Baraat (Abhimaan- S D Burman)
1974-Aap Ki Kasam (Kora Kagaz- Kalyanji Anandji)
1975-Khel Khel Mein/Sholey (Julie-Rajesh Roshan)
1976-Mehbooba (Kabhie Kabhie- Khayyam)
1977-Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahi (Amar Akbar Anthony- Laxmi Pyare)
1978-Shalimar (Satyam Shivam Sundaram- Laxmi Pyare)
1980-Shaan (Karz- Laxmi Pyare)
1981-Love Story (Umrao Jaan-Khayyam)
1982-Sanam Teri Kasam (winner)
1983-Masoom/ Betaab (Masoom-winner)
1984-Jawani (Sharabi-Bappi Lahiri)
1985-Saagar (Ram Teri Ganga Maili-Ravindra Jain)
1994- 1942-A Love Story (winner)

If we compare those gr8 movie (popular as well as gr8 music), we can understand why RD won just 3.

after kishore, RD was not successfull with any other singer.

kalz said...

good show amit....
i personaaly feel julie didnt deserve it... did it win bcoz it was a so called hot movie of those days!!!
again, i prefer hum kissi se kam nahi..to amar akbar anthony...!!!
tho shaan was good..noway, it cud ahve won against karz!!!
sagar was better than ram teri ganga maili...!!!i reserve my comments abt sharabi..less said the better!!!
cudnt they have declared abhimaan and yaadon ki baarat as joint winners??? no way i guess.....!!!
guess, no ones a fan of mukesh...!!!
cheers..!!!

Rishi said...

@ Kalyani and Amit

Very well- Amit. Thanks for compilation.

I used to be a fan of Mukesh and he died when I was about ten years old. Later on as I grew up, I started liking Rafi. I still remember, I skipped few meals on his death i.e. 31.07.1980.

I am still unable to decide whether I liked whom more - Rafi or Kishore? Then after the death of Kishore, there was virtually a lull in the music industry and horrifying songs came for some time. The movie 'Ashiqui' revived my interest in film music again. During that 'lull', I started listening to Jagjit- whose voice and the rendition (I feel) is unparallel among the contemporary singers. I also like Ghulam Ali but ghazal singing (I feel) should not have that much of gayaki-more importantly, it should be soothing and should touch the soul of the listener. Therefore, I feel Jagjit scores over Ghulam Ali in ghazal singing.

No offense to anyone- just put forth my views.

for me, male singer starts n end with kishore. After Kishore. I started liking Shanu (as he resembles kishore quite a lot), but he became quite proudy after 5 consecutive filmfare.

m not that fond of ghazal. but love to listen the famous one. I dont know who has given more hits. But I listen Jagjit more. (may be due to his movie songs)

Listen to kal chaudvin ki raat thi

Jagjit Singh

Julie
--Bhool gaye sab kuch
--dil kya kare
--my hear is beating
--yeh raatein

Khel Khel mein
--ek main aur ek tu
--humne tumko dekha
--khullam khulla pyar
--sapna mera toot gaya

Sholey
--haa jab tak hai jaan
--holi ke din
--koi haseena jab
--mehbooba mehbooba (RD nominated for male playback)
--yeh dosti

Its tough to select betn julie & khel khel mein. I personally prefer Khel Khel mein.

I was suprised by sagaar losing ground to ram teri ganga maili (RTGM)(mandakini factor impressed the judges). Also, Lata sang beautiful nodes in RTGM. I dont like all the songs in RTGM, but I love all the songs of sagaar.

amit,
i disagree, latas voice ka decline started much b4 RTGM...she was in her peak in 50s and 60s and 70s...her so called recent debacles were..RTGM ,dil to pagal hai, maine pyar kiya, hum aapke hain kaun...to name a few!!she shd ahve gracefully retired ,honestly...her voice was horrible in the 80s....my personal opinion...a few ppl i personally know too agree with me..!!!

abt ghazals..my personal fav is ghulam ali, more lively...i guess jagjit singh and pankaj udhaas will b good..wen u ahve a couple of drinks in u r hand..easier to drown in those voices...all mellow all around!!!thankfully , i ahvent reached that stage as yet!!!

@kalyani

the lata's songs which i like in RTGM are
--ek dukhiyari
--ek radha ek meera
--sun sahiba sun

I do agree agree she was not at her best in 80's. But the aforesaid songs were quite nice as compared to other singers in that era.

As I have mentioned 2 factors in favor of RTGM (Mandakini & lata), I got another one, SYMPATHY FACTOR- Ravindra Jain.

bye for the day. will wait for the friday clips.

Really appreciate the effort by you guys in uploading the clips.

Well the latest on Toshi is that Police has interrogated Irfan Ali. Police suspect that Irfan had reached the final 4, but when Toshi made his re-entry through wild-card, Irfan was soon eliminated. But I am very sure Irfan has nothing to do with it as he is a gem of a person and a very good singer too.
